A heartwarming place to stay by the Tuojiang River, with a perfect service experience
This time, when I came to Fenghuang Ancient City to relax, I decided to stay at Phoenix City Boutique Hotel Fenghuang. Originally, I only wanted a good location by the river, but after staying, I realized that the service details of this hotel completely exceeded my expectations for accommodation in the ancient city. Every small need was well received, which directly filled the warmth of the entire trip to Xiangxi.
At the first moment of checking in, I felt the sincerity of the service. I dragged two large boxes of luggage down the stone road at the north gate of the ancient city, and the doorman greeted me from a distance. He took the suitcase from my hand, afraid that I would fall on the slippery stone road, and even helped me walk for a while until I was taken to the hotel lobby. When the Miao girl at the front desk was checking the information, she noticed that I had a camera hanging on my backpack. Before I could even speak, she handed me a hand drawn map of a niche photo spot, clearly marking even the Tuojiang morning photography route to avoid crowds. She also included a cup of chilled local eagle tea. Just after walking in the sun of over 30 degrees, the heat instantly dissipated in one bite.
The detailed service after checking in was even more surprising. While taking a night view on the terrace, I accidentally dropped the camera storage card on the wicker chair. The cleaning lady found it while cleaning the terrace and specially packed it in a waterproof sealed bag. She even left me a handwritten note at the door of the room, afraid that I would be in a hurry. She wrote on the note that "the storage card has been properly kept, don't worry". The next day, I had a sudden gastrointestinal discomfort. I called the front desk more than one o'clock in the morning. The front desk staff not only explained the route in detail to me, afraid that I wouldn't be able to find it, but also specially asked the concierge who was familiar with the road conditions to take me there on the way, and helped me remind the boss to avoid spicy food and remember my gastrointestinal discomfort. The tripod I brought was too heavy and I didn't want to carry it all the time. The front desk took the initiative to help me store it for free and even contacted a legitimate carpool in the nearby Miao village, which was nearly half cheaper than the price I found online. There was no forced consumption tactic at all.
Even when I checked out, the service was not discounted. I took the high-speed train to Huaihua, and the front desk helped me quickly complete the procedures. They even called a car for me for free and carried my luggage to the car. They were afraid that I would get hungry on the way, so they even stuffed me with two bags of local Xiangxi dried kiwifruit, saying it was a special product of the hotel's own drying, and let me try it on the way. As a luxury hotel in the ancient city, Phoenix City Boutique Hotel Fenghuang does not have overly commercialized routines or perfunctory standardized processes. Living by the banks of the Tuo River with water as its pillow
I made a special trip to Fenghuang Ancient City to stay away from the world. I booked Phoenix City Boutique Hotel Fenghuang half a month in advance. Walking along the stone paved road at the north gate of the ancient city and strolling along the bluestone walkway of the Tuojiang River for ten minutes, I didn't have to drag my suitcase around the rugged alley. As soon as I opened the door, the water vapor and fragrance of plants and trees from the Tuojiang River hit me.
As a luxury riverside hotel that focuses on parent-child attributes, as soon as I entered, I felt a completely different sense of openness from the small homestays in the ancient city. There was no sense of cramped space. The Miao girl at the front desk dressed in special clothing and specially handed me a cup of local eagle tea when checking in. She also reminded me that the terrace of the riverside room had the best night view, and even the Tuojiang morning photography route to avoid crowds was clearly marked for me. I chose the parent-child room near the river. The french window is the big terrace facing the Tuojiang River. There are two rattan chairs beside the wooden railings. Sitting here, you can see the awning boats on the river slowly passing by, and the stilted buildings in the distance spread along the mountain. There is no need to squeeze into the crowd near the river to find a viewing place.
The details of the room completely exceeded expectations. As a luxury hotel, it does not have the damp and moldy smell commonly seen in ancient city homestays. The whole house has undergone comprehensive moisture-proof treatment, and the bedding is fluffy and dry. There is also a faint aroma on the pillows. After a day of wandering in the ancient city, the fatigue dissipated after lying down for a while. The hot water in the bathroom comes out in seconds, and the showerhead has even and abundant water output. After strolling on the wet stone road, taking a hot shower can wash away the river breeze and moisture all over. The hotel's parent-child facilities are particularly thoughtful, with children's non slip slippers and small tents prepared in the rooms. If you bring children to stay, there is no need to prepare these extra items yourself.
The service of the hotel was considerate everywhere. I got up late in the morning and missed the breakfast time. The front desk learned that I wanted to try the local Rice noodles, so the kitchen specially asked the back chef to make a bowl of sour beans and minced meat powder for me alone, together with the local sour radish, which tasted more authentic than many time-honored restaurants in the ancient city. At night, I wanted to take a picture of the night view of the Tuojiang River. The concierge took the initiative to point me to a niche observation deck behind the hotel. I didn't have to squeeze into the crowded Hongqiao area to capture the stunning river view without any passersby. The phrase 'quiet but not noisy' mentioned in 98 guest reviews is not an exaggeration at all. After closing the terrace door, you can hardly hear the noise of the riverside bar. You fall asleep at night accompanied by the sound of the Tuo River flowing, and sleep exceptionally soundly all night.
The hotel's location is particularly advantageous, with a 5-minute walk to Hongqiao Fengyu Tower and a 10 minute walk to Shen Congwen's former residence. You don't have to rush, you can leisurely stroll around the core attractions of the ancient city. There are small shops selling Miao silver and local specialties within a few hundred meters of the area. You can easily find authentic Xiangxi blood duck by walking downstairs, without having to travel long distances to find delicious food.
I have stayed at so many riverside homestays in Fenghuang Ancient City, and Phoenix City Boutique Hotel Fenghuang is one of the few choices that can balance "riverside scenery, accommodation comfort, and attentive service". There is no overly commercialized noise, only a relaxed feeling of leaning against the flowing Tuojiang River.
